1. Why this, why now
My name is Tom Purves, and I am thrilled to welcome you to the inaugural post of my Substack, the FinTech CPO.
For those of you who don't know me, I am a seasoned FinTech executive with over 25 years of experience building digital banking, payment rails (new and traditional) and, most-recently AI-enabled fintech. For 12 years I led global digital product roles at Visa. I’m also a serial founder, startup advisor and Angel with multiple exits. Most recently, as the CTO & CPO of a series B fintech startup, MainStreet, I led the creation of disruptive accounting, deposit, and expense management products leveraging the power of AI, ML, and modern open finance APIs.
Like me, you may be passionate about delivering better financial outcomes for individuals, businesses and economies around the world. Despite decades of continuous innovation, it’s still hard to swing a cat in the tradfi or digital economy and not hit innumerable problems yet to be fixed, inefficiencies to take our or opportunities yet to be seized. But like any impatient futurist, sometimes the best way to effect large scale change is just to roll up your sleeves and go build it.
